Examples of completed projects
Customer: BAE Systems - 10kVA to 60kVA
To supply military standard air cooled enclosed transformers, ranging from 10KVA up to 60KVA. All transformers shock tested and approved by 'QinetiQ'. This project required us to manufacture over 200 transformers for the new Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers being built for the British Royal Navy.
Customer: Testing Facility - Bespoke transformer
To design and manufacture a one-off air cooled transformer capable of generating 8000A at 9v. Our engineering team also produced a busbar system to allow our customer to test their equipment.
Customer: Rail Sector - 500va transformer
Our engineering were required to re-engineered a single phase obsolete transformer; our customer required the transformer to be within a tolerance of 0.1mm.
Customer: Pilkington Glass (NSG) - Repair 750kVa
Our team attended our client's site to remove a 3 phase 750kVa transformer; which required one of the phases to be rewound. This was achieved with 2 day turnaround to ensure production was up and running as soon as possible.
Customer: Offshore platform - 9kVA Hazardous Area Transformer
Manufactured a hazardous area transformer designed to isolate and step down the incoming 440 Volts, single phase (2 Phases of Available 3), 50-Hertz supply to 240 Volts Centre tap connected to earth.
How healthy are your transformers?
As transformers age, the probability of failure increases, but with a proper condition assessment and maintenance program, transformers can provide reliable service for years, even decades more than the average life expectancy.
With the right maintenance and reporting, you can make the critical decisions necessary to extend the life of your transformers. These decisions could be the difference between planned, cost-effective maintenance and life extension solutions or expensive responses to preventable disasters. Make informed decisions by knowing what is happening with your critical assets. This can be accomplished through a comprehensive condition assessment program, like the one R Baker (Electrical) Ltd offers.
All military transformers (NSN, NATO stock numbers, a series) we manufacture and repair for defence applications fully comply with the shock and vibration requirements of NES 501 and DEF STAN 02-535. Our type tests also include self-induced vibration and EMC requirements for military vessels, our entire range has been shock tested by a MOD approved agency (QinetiQ).
Transformers are hard mounted to bulkheads and decks, and do not require shock mounts. All equipment is manufactured to a minimum of IP23 of BS60529 and to Cat.2 Shock Grade C. Units are naturally air-cooled, and mounted in IP rated enclosures.
